Citi and the Citi Foundation Invest in a New Generation of Business Professionals

In the face of an ever-evolving multicultural economy, Corporate America has recognized the value of diverse leadership to understand and represent the interests of our Latino community—our nation’s fastest growing group of both small business owners and consumers. The Citi Foundation and TELACU understood this need early on and have consistently invested in the education of our young business professionals.

Preparing our young people to advance within Corporate America means providing them with more than financial resources. That’s why in 2003 Citi and the Citi Foundation partnered with the TELACU Education Foundation to pioneer a comprehensive program that would drive business students to academic success and also provide them with inspiring role models and rich insights into the multi-faceted world of business.

The Citi/TELACU Scholars Mentoring Program matches top-level executives from Citi’s various lines of business—including their commercial, mortgage, credit and banking departments—with Scholars who are pursuing business degrees. These committed mentors provide students with exposure to the financial services industry and the opportunity to develop professional contacts. Scholars also receive up to $10,000 annually for college expenses and benefit from skill-building seminars, academic counseling, and leadership development activities.

Since the Program’s inception, Citi Foundation has contributed over $1 million to the success of a new generation of business leaders. This vital investment is an integral part of the Citi Foundation’s new education strategy to increase college attendance rates by reducing critical barriers to higher education. The Citi Foundation is committed to enhancing economic opportunities for underserved individuals and families in the communities where Citi works throughout the world.
